Associate Professor, Co-Director

He is an Associate Professor of Computer Science with the University of Bologna, where he is the co-director of the PRISM IoT research laboratory. He received the Laurea (summa cum laude) and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Bologna, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He was a Visiting Researcher with the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA and with Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA. He authored more than 120 papers on wireless and mobile systems, achieving three best paper awards for his scientific production. He is Associate Editor of the Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks journal. He has been General Chair of the IFIP WWIC 2019 conference, and Program Chair of the IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE CCNC 2022), of the IFIP 16th International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications (IFIP WWIC 2018), of the 2019 5th IEEE International Symposium on Measurements and Networking (IEEE M&N 2019), of the IEEE International Workshop on Mission-Oriented Wireless Sensor, UAV and Robot Networking (IEEE MiSARN 2019), of the the IEEE International Workshop on Wireless Sensor, Robot and UAV Networks (IEEE WiSARN 2018, IEEE WiSARN 2020, IEEE WiSARN 2021), of the International Workshop on Emerging COgnitive Radio Applications and aLgorithms (IEEE CORAL 2012, IEEE CORAL 2013, IEEE CORAL 2015, IEEE CORAL 2016), of the First International Workshop on Self-Organizing Wireless Access Networks for Smart CITY (IEEE SWANSITY 2014), and Vice Program Chair of the IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE CCNC 2021). His recent research interests include: the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Web of Things (IoT), robotic wireless networks and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), self-organizing and learning-based wireless systems and Device-to-Device (D2D) communication, data analytics and mining, context-aware, mobile and edge computing, indoor localization and mobile services.
